Director statement

In Distances, my interest was to understand how difficult it might be to communicate feelings to a person you deeply care about. To me, a father and son relationship is a fragile and distant one. It is one that grows gradually over the years. In the film, Alexandros realizes that his connection to his absent father is one that cannot change; one that goes back many generations. Almost by accident, he takes a step closer to his father, who seems unable to handle his parenthood. Yet, Alexandros recognizes the rare opportunity they've just had: to spend time together.
